学科的临床特色包括难治性Hp 感染的治疗、Hp感染相关性疾病（活动性胃炎、消化性溃疡等）与酸相关性疾病（胃食管反流病等）治疗、不明原因的消化道出血的诊断与处理、慢性萎缩性胃炎的治疗和胃癌与大肠癌的预防与治疗、脂肪性肝病诊治、自身免疫性肝病的诊治、肝纤维化的无创伤性诊断及肝移植前后的内科处理等。

    Shanghai Institute of Digestive Disease was founded in 1984 and has been bestowed as the national postdoctorate research station in 1991, the Ministry of Health supported laboratory on digestive diseases in 1994, the national pharmacy clinical research base in 1998, and the Shanghai municipal clinical research center for digestive diseases in 2002, respectively. The motto of the institute is to integrate clinical practice, education and research into an unity. Shanghai Institute of Digestive Disease now is a well known distinguished institute over the country. The major research programs of the institute include Helicobacter pylori and acid related diseases (including chronic gastritis, reflux esophagitis, and peptic ulcer), neoplasms of gastrointestinal tract and its precancerous lesions, chronic liver diseases (including chronic hepatitis, hepatic fibrosis, liver cirrhosis and its complications). Within these years, under the guidance of senior scholars with Prof. Jiang Shao-ji as representative, the staff of the institute have made great contributions for the success and achievement of the institute. Now, the Shanghai Institute of Digestive Disease and the Department of Gastroenterology, Ren-ji Hospital, Shanghai Second Medical University has become one of the major bases of clinical practice, education and research for digestive diseases in China.
